The 11th Annual Keels & Wheels Concours d'Elegance car and boat show was held on May 6-7, 2006 at the Lakewood Yacht Club in Seabrook, TX. This event is the state's largest single showcase of gorgeous early wooden boats and water craft as well as a variety of unique and rare automobiles. A few of us from the valley were able to make it up for this event this year and enjoyed seeing all that we did. There are hundreds of vehicles to walk through and admire throughout the setting of the yacht club. Cars ranging from muscle cars, street rods, foreign and domestic race cars, sports cars, rare one off high end prestigious vehicles, just about any type vehicle imaginable. The day before the event a huge rain storm blew threw and soaked the show grounds as well as several cars that were already in place that evening. But well, no really harm done other than more time and energy required to clean up the vehicles again and have them presentable for the show. There were a few places around that you definitely had to watch your step or you would end up with a shoe full of mud or water and of course the humidity didn't help the already high Texas heat. As part of the event there were art sales, displays, and the WWG hosted an auction which we witnessed many many beautiful vehicles go through and sell for incredibly high prices or not reach their reserves. For instance, we saw a 1970 Cuda sell for just under a million dollars. Plans are already underway for next years event, so make plans to attend.
