Goodguys 11th Annual LoneStar Nationals -- Fort Worth
October 3,4,5 2003
Beautiful old cars, cars and then
more cars. That is what greeted us at this year's 11th
Annual Goodguys LoneStar Nationals. Each year, the
Goodguys Rod & Custom Association sponsors car shows and events
all over the country. They hold these events at various
locations in different regions and one of the national events is
held here in the State of Texas. For the past decade,
Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth has been home to the Goodguys
LoneStar Nationals. This event draws a large number of
people and great quality old cars from all across the globe.
The setting is ideal as the cars are paraded through the tunnels
and out to the infield of one of the biggest motor sports arenas
in Texas.
Each year, this event grows and
grows and this year was no exception. There were somewhere
in the range of 3,000 cars that were to be on hand for this
event and a good crowd of spectators. The event is held
over several days with different events and activities scheduled
for each day. Some of the attractions including, live
bands, swap meet, vendor displays, car show, and even a
time when the old cars were set out in groups to run the course
around the oval. As you walk around looking at the various
assortment of cars, the roar of engines buzzes around as drivers
from the Texas race team give rides around the oval track all
during the event.
The weather was great all weekend
for this event, until late Saturday night/early Sunday morning
(final day of the event). A massive rain and thunderstorm
blew in during the night and dropped its share of water.
This discouraged a few from bringing their cars back out on
Sunday, but the sky cleared and the cars came out again.
We were actually surprised and pleased to see the number of cars
and their owners that braved the conditions to bring their cars
back out and show them. Just before the parade of the
award winners began, the clouds let loose and sprinkled us again
with some showers but it was still a fantastic time and a great
event to get out and see some incredible old cars.
This event is definitely one that
you don't want to miss out on. It is a great opportunity
to see some of the latest in ideas and resources for the old car
restoration and hot rod hobby as well as an opportunity to hang
out with a large group of other fellow hobbyists and meet and
greet some of the biggest names in the old car and street rod
scene.

There were far more
cars at the event to picture, these are just a small sampling.
