Mission Classic Car Show 2009
Once again, the
city of Mission, TX hosted their annual Classic Car Show, this
being the 6th year for the event and again this event is growing
bigger and bigger. The event is open to cars and trucks
only from 1976 or older. The date for the show was set a
week earlier this year and held on February 28th.
Something else came along this year making this event a
different than the past events, the weather !! The
forecast for the day was that perhaps early in the morning there
would be a front that would come through bringing a little rain
and then would clear out and would have a clear day with just
some high winds, well the day started nice enough and well the
front didn't hit in the early morning, rather a good number of
folks started showing up bright and early in the morning to
bring their cars out and get them set for the show, then sure
enough the front did show up and hit hard and fast. There
were tremendous winds and rains and well the temp was a bit cold
for most southern Texas blooded folks. A good number of
the car folks hit the road to head for shelter, but there were
plenty of us that stuck it out. Good thing was the rain
and such only lasted about an hour, the weather cleared up and
we had a beautiful day for a car show. A good number
of cars continued to show up so there was well over 300 cars in
attendance for the show for the rest of the event. We
wonder if the weather had cooperated throughout the day and all
the old cars that had been there would have stayed and all else
would have shown up and weren't scared off by the rain, we may
have had about 600 or more cars...will have to wait for next
year to find out.
