Sizzlin' Summer Rod Run 2009
On Saturday
July 18th, RGV OldCars hosted another FREE cruise event.
The event titled the Sizzlin' Summer Rod Run began at Elliff
Motors parking lot in Harlingen, TX at about 3:30 in the
afternoon. The event brought out about 75 total cars for
the run and at least 100 folks. Participants were greeted
with HOT temperatures, cold water, goodie bags, Hawaiian leis,
dash plaques, and good friends. The run took us through
some back roads toward our final destination of Port Isabel
where we met up with Port Isabel city representatives, and got
escorted through town by police and fire department staff and
vehicles. We wound up at Pelican Station restaurant with a
beautiful view of the causeway bridge and gulf waters.
More goodie bags provided by the city of Port Isabel were handed
out as well as other games and prizes and of course a good meal.
Congratulations to Ed Belzer for being the grand champion, who
found an inflatable pink flamingo in his goodie bag that he had
to inflate and turn in to redeem his prize. He enlisted
the help of a few friends to get the bird inflated. A very
special thank you to all the volunteers that helped get this
event together as well as all those that came out, bared the
heat and participated with us. High temperatures just go
with the territory when you are in South Texas, so why not get
out and enjoy the old cars anyhow.
